Pinup Girl For A Day
For Christmas I wanted to surprise my husband with a pinup style photo shoot. Having lost 120 lbs I was feeling pretty good about myself and wanted to give him something memorable (also he’s a big fan of 50’s style pinup girls). Lucky for me a friend from work is also a photographer with her own business. Shannon said she would be more than happy to take the photo’s, we could take them at my house, inside, outside or she knew of a place where we could rent a studio. I opted to do them at my own home both inside and outside. I thought I might feel more comfortable parading around mostly naked in my own home. Because truthfully I was pretty nervous to allow someone to photography me mostly naked.
The day arrived and it was 30 degrees (F) outside, WTF some of those photos were suppose to be taken outside! Now what… well we decided to just go with it, I figured it won’t be too bad, it’s just a short time I’ll bring out a blanket. News flash it was that bad it was cold and windy and parts of me were hanging out getting froze. But I sucked it up because, I really wanted to this as a Christmas gift for my husband, like his big gift, it turned out that it was a also a big gift for me, but more on that later. I was cold and nervous which made me stiff and grimacing more than smiling. But Shannon had some tricks up her sleeve she told me “look I promise I won’t let you look bad, angles and props are your friends”. She started talking about regular things and we started giggling over the weather, the poses and everything in between. At one point she came over and showed me a photo and said “see I look I promise you don’t look bad”, I looked at the photo and said WOW, I look nice, sexy even and it changed my whole attitude not only through the photo shoot but long after as well. Once you start relaxing and having fun, seriously just get silly with it, the pictures turn out great.
It was sort of amazing, how much it boosts your self confidence and belief in your own sexuality. I was sent 2 proofs or sneak peeks and again I felt the wow factor and all those feeling come back. What I mean when I say all those feelings, is kind of hard to describe. It’s like when you know your sexy and you start to strut your stuff, and you just feel that surge of feminine power. When I got the finished products I thought Shannon was a wizard. I for once felt like I was smart and sexy and confident. According to her and several other’s, she just showcased what I was hiding from myself that I am smart and sexy and confident. It was a wonderful reminder. Being a pinup girl, no matter how briefly gave me such a boost in confidence and belief in my own sexuality that it actually stunned me a little, after all we never want to admit that we’ve fallen that far. But I am so glad that I did the shoot, not only because my husband enjoyed and continues to enjoy the photo’s and the boost in my confidence, but because the photos and the overall experience helped to loosen up and enjoy being a sexy female who guys get all stupid over (in a good way lol) I even gave the ok for him to share it on a Facebook page called pinup and hot rods, the responses were very positive and some of course were giggle inducing. Even now when I look at the photo’s it brings back the surge of warm fuzzies about myself and are a great reminder that I can be silly, sexy, smart, funny and confident, I can enjoy being me.
I feel like every woman should do a pinup or boudoir style photo shoot, not just for your significant other but for yourself. As a reminder of what a smart, funny, capable, sexy and confident bad ass babe. Do it be silly, be sexy, be you. Let it all out, trust me you won’t be disappointed.
Things to keep in mind
- you don’t have to be naked or in super skimpy outfits, unless you want to. Pinup is all about the implied innuendo
- ask if the photographer will come to your house or somewhere you feel comfortable
- bring several outfit changes, makeup and other props that you want to include
- understand that you will feel nervous and silly at first, it’s ok we all feel that way, just keep going.
- have fun
