Magic is fading throughout the world and the supernatural realms can feel the strain growing daily, but Sarah doesn’t care about any of that. She cares about protecting her son from her vampiric ex-husband who is obsessed with gaining power. She’ll stop at nothing to ensure that Alex doesn’t get his hands on Jackson, even if it means welcoming more vampires and other supernatural beings into her life.
Their journey takes her across the country, seeking the help of a witch that has invaded her son’s dreams. A vampire named Zander threatens to bring all of her carefully constructed walls crashing down. She’ll break every rule and every preconceived notion they have about her, as long as she can save her son and give him the future that was stolen from her. Sarah’s path connects to the very battle that she tries to avoid, and when she embraces not only her growing power, but also her destiny- she might be able to change the tides of fate.

This is one of those books that sucks you in right from the start and you can’t put it down. The story moves along at a good pace, with well developed characters, who were very likable and the bad guys were well done and thoroughly unlikable. Well written with plenty of twists and a well done ending that leaves you wanting more. I absolutely adored this book it had everything a fantasy book should action, wars, witchcraft, love, and magic.
Sarah, a fairly new vampire, had a son before she was turned, she just happened to have that son with Alex a fairly old vampire (not that he looked it, of course). Alex had a hidden agenda, he wanted to magically age the child, so that he could be used to take over the blood court (rulers of the vampires). Sarah, not knowing any of this, decides to leave Alex, taking the child with her and being on the run. They make it to California, where they meet Winter, an ancient Witch and Zander, Alex’s brother, who help her learn more about the vampire world and the parts her and Jack must play.
Sarah only wants to protect her son Jack, but soon finds out that he may just be the key to save the magic from fading from the world completely. Jack’s 4th birthday will bring on a war that had long been prophesied. Which side he chooses, will determine the fate of them all. Sarah, must overcome her fears and challenges.. will she rise or fall?
Fantasy with a unique twist, having a young child be the key and hope of everything. Plus, I liked that it was set in modern day.
I was sent a copy of the book for review. All thoughts and opinions are always my own.
